Facebook plans to add third-party apps to Messenger

The social network is set to announce about 20 third-party services, whose apps will work on top of Messenger when the integration rolls out, according to a person familiar with the matter. It's not yet clear who the early partners are or what the integration will look like, but Facebook will likely expand the capability to more developers following the initial rollout.

Intercontinental Hotels Group announced it's launching an app for the Apple Watch that will allow tourists to translate languages around the globe.
The IHG Translator app, which will be released for the global launch of the Apple Watch on April 24, is based off a feature of the company's mobile app that helps users travel like a local in a different country.

Facebook says it's developing virtual reality apps



Facebook is sharing a little more of its vision for virtual reality.
Less than a year after Facebook closed its acquisition of Oculus VR, maker of the innovative wrap-around Oculus Rift headset and a pioneer in the virtual-reality video game realm, Facebook revealed Tuesday it is developing versions of its apps for use in a virtual reality environment.

Google just bought a storytelling app for kids

When Google said it was busy creating a kid-friendly internet, it wasn't joking around. The company just bought Launchpad Toys, best known for its animated storytelling appToontastic. While it's too soon to know what Google's exact plans are, Launchpad says its going to make "even more amazing creativity tools" for the younger crowd. That may mean web-based tools, knowing Google. Whatever the search provider does, now's a good time to check out Launchpad's apps -- Toontastic and its add-on content are free in the wake of the buyout.

Facebook Dominated Mobile App Downloads in 2014

Facebook had a tremendous year for app downloads. According to new data about 2014 mobile app usage, iOS and Android users downloaded Facebook’s mobile apps more often than any other apps, both in the US and globally. And according to Facebook’s fourth quarter earnings, reported yesterday, over half a billion users now access Facebook exclusively through mobile devices.

Facebook reportedly working on anonymous mobile app

Facebook recently came under fire for its real name policy and how it enforces that policy.
Now it looks like the company is exploring another way to interact on its billion-strong social network.
The New York Times is reporting that Facebook is working on a mobile app that would allow users to interact anonymously with each other. The publication’s two sources say the app should be released in the “coming weeks.”
