Android Lollipop is gaining more users as new flagships come out

It took a while for Android Lollipop to even get its own slice on the OS pie chart Google releases regularly, but it now seems to be steadily gaining popularity. According to the latest Android stats collected from April 28th to May 4th, nine percent of devices are now running Lollipop. While that's still quite small, it's almost double last month's percentage (five percent). KitKat's stat slid down to 39.8 percent from last month's 41.4 percent, so a number of stragglers might have finally upgraded.

Amid the fanfare of the Apple Watch launch, a few eagle eyed employees at Team Androidtoday discovered an unusual easter egg within Google Maps. Visiting these specific coordinates on the outskirts of Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Team Android found an image of the Google Android mascot urinating over the Apple logo to be embedded within the map itself.

Google has announced that apps distributed through its store are now manually tested and reviewed to uncover app violations and malware. With iOS And Android Plans, Even Cortana Is Part Of Microsoft’s Cross-Platform Strategy



Cortana is bound for both Android and iOS via standalone apps planned for launch after Windows 10 brings the Microsoft virtual assistant to the desktop, according to Reuters. The Android and iOS versions of Cortana serve Microsoft’s larger goal of building more advanced AI features into Cortana, in a future iteration codenamed “Einstein,” the agency says, citing people with knowledge of the project.

Microsoft is planning to bring its Cortana digital assistant to iOS and Android as a standalone app. While the software maker has previously confirmed Cortana would come to additional operating systems, Reuters reports that the standalone app will be available on phones and tablets running iOS and Android.

That tiny USB Type-C port you've seen on the latest MacBook and Chromebook Pixel? Don't be surprised if you see it on your smartphone soon. In a video accompanying the new Chromebook, Google's Adam Rodriguez says that his company is "very committed" to the new USB spec and that you'll see it on both Android phones and more Chromebooks in the "near future."

Android Wear devices to add Wi-Fi, gestures

On the heels of Apple's big smartwatch reveal Monday, rival Google is reportedly planning a major update to wearable devices running on Android Wear.
According to The Verge, which cites an unnamed source, Google is planning an update that will enable Wi-Fi support, which means notifications will continue to work even if the watch doesn't have a connection to the user's smartphone.
