The 4K television market is a mess, and according to a report from BuzzFeed News, Apple won't be helping it get any better this year. BuzzFeed reports that Apple won't be bringing 4K streaming to the next generation of Apple TV, which so far is par for the course; the company just hasn't said anything about when 4K content might come to iTunes or the Apple TV.

Amazon is adding support for USB storage and other new features to Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

Google is making TV commercials more like internet ads
It looks like Google wants to bring TV ads into the 21st century. The company has quietly announced a new local advertising service for Google Fiber that will make TV ads behave a lot more like internet ads. Using data from its set-top-boxes, Google (and advertisers) will know precisely how many times a particular local ad has been watched in homes with Google Fiber service.

Apple Web Television Service Would Awaken A Sleeping Apple TV Giant

Apple is set to launch a dedicated streaming TV service beginning in September, according to the Wall Street Journal. The offering would boast around 25 channels, including major broadcasters like ABC, CBS and Fox and would likely be priced around $30 or $40 a month, with an initial unveil in June (most likely at WWDC).

Samsung's smart TVs are inserting unwanted ads into users' own movies
Samsung's smart TVs have already come under fire this week for a poorly-worded privacy policy that apparently let the devices listen in on owners' conversations. Now, there are reports that the sets are inserting ads "every 20-30 minutes" into users' own, locally-stored content.
