Norway-based technology company Opera Software has revealed that it’s finally bringing bookmark syncing to its popular mobile and desktop browser.
Bookmark syncing has been available in developer and beta versions of the app for a few months already, but today sees the feature arrive in the main build of the app — on Opera for desktop, Opera Mini for iOS, and Opera for Android. For some reason, Opera Mini for Android has been omitted for this launch, but we’re told that it will be added to the mix in the future.
To set up bookmark syncing, all you need to do is log in to your Opera account on each device that uses the browser. You can continue to use Opera without signing in; you just won’t be able to sync your bookmarks.
While Opera may not garner the same headlines as the likes of Chrome or Firefox, the browser does count almost 300 million users on mobile and 55 million on desktop, with more than 20 years of history to boast of since its founding in 1995. So it’s for this reason Opera’s hitherto lack of bookmark syncing in any capacity has been surprising, given it’s a key feature of other browsers in the market and integral to the multi-platform web browsing typical of today’s Internet users.
Opera made $300 million in 2013, revenue garnered from providing services to mobile operators, publishers, and advertisers, including licensing deals with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and search and e-commerce partnerships.
Meanwhile, here’s a quick look at Opera’s official promo video for its new bookmark-syncing feature.
