The speed at which you can work on a keyboard is limited by how well you know your keyboard shortcuts. One new keyboard, however, is seeking to eliminate the need to memorize such shortcuts. The symbols on the keys of the Jaasta e-ink keyboard change to match its current use.
The Jaasta keyboard has e-ink displays embedded in each of its keys. This allows it to change the keys' symbols depending on what language you are using and what application you have open. For example, if a user switches to working in Photoshop, the symbols on the keys will change to reflect the actions that can be carried out with keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop.
In addition to its dynamic keys, the Jaasta keyboard is wireless and can be used to control a TV-connected laptop from up to 33 ft (10 m). It features a 3.7-inch multi-touch touchpad for on-screen navigation and has a voice-activated virtual assistant that can be used to save, delete, send and search for files.
Elsewhere, the keyboard features media hot-keys, such as play, mute and volume control, is configurable so that keys that are used rarely can be assigned other outputs, and has a 12-month battery life. It measures 391 x 150 mm (15.4 x 5.9 in).
Jaasta has also announced a "soundless mouse" that it says does not emit a clicking sound when the left and right buttons are pressed. It is said to be ergonomically designed with a four-way scroll wheel, features a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port for a flash drive, offers up to 64 GB of internal memory, and has a battery life of two years.
The company says both the e-ink keyboard and the soundless mouse will be available to pre-order via a crowdfunding campaign soon. No pricing details have yet been announced.
