Some officials associated such attacks to the
financial sector of United States sanctions against Russia.
Last week, the portal SecurityLab reported about a large-scale data breach of 83 million
customers of the JPMorgan Chase & Co bank. According to The New York Times,
in addition to this financial organization, victims of hackers were even nine
banks and broker companies. According to
a source of publication, familiar with the situation for all ten incidents is
responsible one and the same group of attackers. The scale of the attacks and
the names of the affected institutions are still unknown.
It is assumed that the attacks were carried out from
the territory of Russia, and hackers can be associated with the Government of
the Russian Federation. Judging by the scale of the attacks, it can be assumed
that the aim was not stealing users' personal information, it was a demonstration
of its capabilities. According to The New York Times, attackers had shown that
even the highest protection of financial institutions, the United States is not
an obstacle for them.
"Maybe such situation due to the sanctions
against Russia. But may be mixed motives, for example, possibility to steal and
sell any information that you are able
to get, "- said a publisher, who asked to remain anonymous.
According to the analyst of Javelin Strategy and
Research Al Pascual (Al Pascual), the fact that the hackers managed to
compromise a system of such a large bank like JPMorgan, is a big surprise.
Guiding of financial organization
believe that a coordinated attacks on the banking system could cause another
financial crisis.
